What is ISEAGE?
The Internet-Scale Event and Attack Generation Environment network testbed housed at Iowa State University, and its portable counterpart ISECube, are premier facilities dedicated to creating a virtual Internet for the purpose of conducting research, system testing, critical infrastructure modeling, training and education, and outreach.
Both the ISEAGE and ISECube testbeds create a routable Internet with real computers and networking hardware, not just programming software. Unlike conventional testbeds where each router is represented by either a real router or a software router running on a computer, ISEAGE can have up to 100 routers per board and these routers can be configured to create arbitrary topologies. It is a controlled environment where real world attacks can be played out against different configurations of equipment, as well as different network topologies.
ISEAGE is a world class research and education facility where more than 30 faculty members and over 50 graduate students use the flexibility of the ISEAGE’s current 64-node reconfigurable environment on projects related to cyber security and physical infrastructure protection. To date, ISEAGE has been used primarily to test network security and for cyber security modeling, as well as to support cyber defense simulations and cyber security preparedness training.
